The Difference You Make

Little things can make the world of difference. Explore 5 categories of support that Diane and her family/team experienced along their 15+ year journey as a special needs family. Real, unpolished stories. Real support.

For people who care and are interested in supporting others. This is not written for special needs families. They don't need to read about help others received, which they may not be getting. You are invited to listen, read, and reach out with your own type of support to those along your path. It's needed.

With gratitude for all the help from so many.  Thanks for The Difference You Make!

Janitors: Essential Hospital Staff

Diane talks about how essential janitorial staff were to protecting her children from harsh chemicals and scents when they were in the hospital. They went above and beyond and showed deep awareness and kindness.

Cross-Stitch Art

Diane’s friend, Heather Loveridge, made each of the family’s children beautifully intricate cross-stitch artwork, which Diane shows in this video.

Simplifying Government Processes

Special Services at Home (SSAH) sent Diane at letter that updated their funding processes. Because the family had been receiving services for so many years, they no longer had to go through a huge process to reapply. Oxygen Tank Meet Up at Tim Hortons

When Colton needed oxygen, he needed it. Oxygen was delivered to the family, but one time Colton needed more sooner than they expected. In order to get it, they met the delivery driver in a Tim Hortons parking lot, 80 minutes from home. To get the tank open, they had to knock on doors to … Read more

Consider the Logistics

The Oil Change

Normally a trip to get my oil changed doesn’t end up in a life lesson.   I go to an Auto Mechanic shop I really like.  They know me. I trust them, and they have always been good to me.  They also do quality work, and try to help me save money when they can.   When I phoned … Read more

Quality Matters

Just got a comment from Florio, a team leader from Desi’s Roofing who is installing the replacement roof today.   As you may have read/watched, this was previously done in 2002 by the Leslie Family and friends.   Our “Roof-o-Rama”! Frankly, the shingles used, were not to the quality the company guaranteed them for. That company went out of business … Read more

Megan’s Hug

A tiny child, waving feverishly from the window 8 floors above us, brought a lump to my throat and a few tears to my eyes this past weekend.  Privileged to both witness and participate in this experience of creating hope. The beautiful, sunny weather on Mother’s Day weekend was perfect for the return of the 5k … Read more

Cherry Pie… and leading by example.

Cherry Pie… and leading by example. Today is June 13th. It is the birthdate of my mother-in-law Gisele. I know that in some cultures, when a couple separates, that person is no longer considered a mother-in-law, but Gisele, in heaven with my two children, will always be my mother-in-law… she was also the only biological … Read more
